Yes, I’m posting Halloween stuff half way through November. And my Halloween decorations are still up. I just like the aesthetic of Halloween so much better than Christmas. The grumpy pumpkins, spooky skeletons and black cats just rank so much higher for me than a jolly old guy in a red suit, snowmen and reindeer. A few years ago I decided to have a go at making my own vintage inspired Halloween decorations. Back in the day before you could go to Kmart and pick up a plastic pumpkin bucket to take trick or treating, you had to make your own.
Paper mâché was an easy and cost effective way to do this and the effect was quite striking. So I decided to give it a go and made this cat candy pail. I enjoyed the creative process so much that I spent a good part of October making my own Halloween decorations out of paper mâché. Which is exactly why it pains me to have to put them into storage for another year, after so much love and care went into making these creations.
I love all of the Halloween pinup photos from the 1940s and one thing they all have in common is the simplicity of the costumes. There’s not a whole lot of emphasis on looking spooky, but cute and playful. Most of them feature a cute pair of shorts, top and heels. Which was the inspiration for this simple and comfortable look. The two highlights of October for me were getting to visit a pumpkin farm and doing a vintage inspired Halloween photoshoot that Miss Audrey Azure put together for us. I made the paper mâché pumpkins for the shoot and Miss Audrey made “corn” plants from bamboo. And now to wait until it’s Halloween again…

Love both your 40’s outfit and the photoshoot! And the paper mâché is such a good idea and looks so much better than plastic.
