Hollyhock Reverie

November 16, 2024 · 1 Comment

Our summer was off to a head start this year with worryingly warm winter days, so I ended up missing out on a lot of the flowers. The cherry blossoms and many others had already wilted by the time we visited the flower carnival, but I was thankful to get some photos with the magnificent hollyhocks. I am really terrible at growing flowers, I’m getting better at it, but my biggest issue is keeping up with the watering – which is essential in our climate. I did however have some success growing Flanders Poppies however; an unexpected triumph.

I was hoping to stop buying floral dresses for a while, but this one had puff sleeves, so I had to make the exemption. I keep seeing people talking about dopamine dressing and I suppose this applies to my wardrobe very much so. I know this outfit is very simple with not a lot going on, but not every vintage outfit requires going all out, and in some cases doing that starts to make it look a bit costumey. Or sometimes it takes me a while to come up with all the pieces that perfectly coordinate a look and I can be very impatient about wearing things right away.

Just as I was settling into my spring wardrobe, it was time to pack for autumn and winter. We are off to Japan for a few weeks where the autumn leaves will be at their most beautiful and the weather perfect for wearing 1940s suits and coats. But while there we will island hop to Okinawa where it is warm all year round. So my posting on here will be a bit disjointed over the coming months as I jump between outfits for summer and winter. All 1940s style of course!

A vintage lover from Brisbane. I am passionately nostalgic for decades before my time. I enjoy recreating looks inspired by the past wearing both vintage and vintage reproduction clothing. My blog focuses on the styles of the art deco period and features both authentic vintage pieces from the 1920s, 30s & 40s, as well as modern reproductions of clothing from these eras. My blog explores creating modern every day looks with vintage elements. If you would like to say hello get in touch with me through [email protected].
