Dressing like Emma Stone in Magic in the Moonlight

I don’t want to be that person who goes on holiday and then spends forever spamming everyone with photos of their holiday months later. However, the reality is that going on holiday means a change of scenery and often much nicer backdrops for photos than there are back home. It would be rude not to take advantage of different landmarks, especially if they are particularly picturesque! This lighthouse is one spot that I don’t pass up an opportunity to take blog photos with, every time I see it I gasp at how cute it is and the amazing view from the hill it sits on.

Something that I am really grateful for is the way that blogging has made me appreciate my surroundings more. I’m also certain that I’m not the only blogger who plans their holiday outfits based on the locations they will encounter on their holiday. After all, I’m sure we’ve all had a moment when we’ve been far from home and come across the most perfect spot to go with a specific outfit, only for that outfit to be sitting back at home. Or maybe this is just me? What can I say, google earth is now one of my favorite resources.

This outfit came together after watching Magic in the Moonlight and falling in love with every single outfit Emma Stone wears in the film. The film is set in the 1920s and Emma Stone plays a clairvoyant. Emma’s wardrobe consists of a divine selection of pastel colored frocks worn with flower laden hats, an aesthetic I myself am very fond of. It’s a film that has been a great source of inspiration for day wear for me and I enjoyed it if only on a purely aesthetic level as someone who finds Woody Allen’s work quite blasé.

One of the few not so pastel outfits worn by Emma in the film is this outfit that she wears for the seance, which was my inspiration for the outfit you see here. While the skirt certainly has more of 1940s feel to it, I feel that it still comes fairly close. I’m sure that you don’t need me to tell you how hard it is to find reproduction 1920s separates…! But, not being a stickler for authenticity I am completely alright with wearing a mix of decades to put together an outfit with a 1920s feel. As it is, I really do need both kidneys so I don’t have any plans to sell my organs for era authentic outfits.

Wearing:

House of Foxy blouse & skirt

Novo Heels

Beautiful and if you can get vintage repro that looks this authentic – keep your kidneys where they belong. You look wonderful as usual and I love that colour on you

That’s funny you mention that film as my husband picked up a copy the other day! We haven’t watched it yet. I generally find Woody Allen films boring, except for Midnight in Paris which is one of my favourite films.

I recognised that top as HOF straight away, it looks tip-top with that skirt. And what a stunning location! It would have been rude not to pose there. Xx

This location always reminds me of a lighthouse back where we go on our coastal holidays every time you share it! I think it’s the on-top of hill thing and the fact they’re both cute and white. I, however, utterly failed to get photos with it because of the roaring wind and glaring sun the time I attempted it – probably the worst weather combination for taking photos there is (other than torrential downpour). Anyway, who cares about 100% era authenticity when you look this good 😉 xx

I definitely plan what to wear to coordinate with potential backgrounds for photos too! 🙂

You are not alone in the slightest. I majorly (!) plan my outfits and accessory choices (when I can team themed jewelry and/or other accessories with a location, it’s like a chorus of very stylish heavenly angels start singing! :)) where we’re travelling and honestly, doing so has become one of my favourite (and most enjoyed) elements of taking a trip.

This really is a breathtaking backdrop for your chic + cute red ensemble. I’ve not yet posed with a lighthouse before, but you’ve seriously got me wanting to do so all the more now.

Good for you on taking that approach (re: mixing eras and sources to get the sort of look you’re after). That has always, always been my approach to vintage, too, and one that, arguably, I feel gives a person the greatest degree of creative license with their ensembles.

    Many hugs,
    ♥ Jessica

I would steal this outfit from you in a heartbeat! It’s such a cute look. I definitely get a real 20s/30s feel for this, so I think you nailed the inspiration. I love this poppy red/orange color on you, and you couldn’t have found a better place to shoot than this lighthouse.

I am always planning my ensembles around the locations we are headed too ~ be it a holiday or just a short day out! But basically, all the coordination forever and ever…

Speaking of forever ~ that lighthouse! I love it so much and I’m so happy to see it pop up in your photos again! I didn’t realise at first that your outfit is a blouse and skirt, I seriously thought it was a dress, but it looks so amazing either way. ❤

This is so beautiful! I own a similar skirt by The House Of Foxy and love it!
I don’t know “Magic in the Moonlight” but now I know what to watch next. 😉
