When your home decor matches the set of Jumanji, you may as well embrace the whole look! I thought it was about time I blogged a vintage explorer inspired look after wanting to do so for so long. The main reason I’d put it off is because it’s taken me this long to find a pair of binoculars to use as a prop. I mean how much of a serious explorer can one be without a pair of these? In the beginning I really wanted to find some of those authentic looking gold and horn rimmed ones but I didn’t have much luck, so a pair of scruffy ones I picked up in an op shop will just have to do.

I’m not really sure where this love of explorer/safari inspired outfits comes from, but one thing for sure is that I’m not the only blogger obsessed with this aesthetic. A great source of inspiration behind this outfit were some of the posts by The Closet Historian who has worn some fantastic vintage adventurer outfits. While I did also watch A Passage to India and Out of Africa, these made me wince and cringe pretty hard…for obvious reasons; so instead I recommend a viewing of the 1925 film Lost World or the Indiana Jones series. Quite seriously though I think everyone should go and appreciate the stop motion dinosaurs in Lost World, the film is good fun!

With this outfit however I was going for a subtle Indiana Jones vibe. As it is I’m currently on the look out for a 30s/40s aviator style jacket so maybe one day I will be able to go the whole way with this look. Just without the stock whip though… But I do love a masculine inspired look, and there’s nothing like channeling a Harrison Ford character that makes one feel confident…or should I say, arrogant? I realise that wearing these wingtip heels is a bit of an oxymoron with this outfit, but that’s just my way of putting a feminine spin on the whole look. Well, that and the fact that my adventure appropriate boots fell apart months ago and I won’t be able to get my hands on any until the shops here at the end of the earth start to fill with autumn/winter gear…

A vintage lover from Brisbane. I am passionately nostalgic for decades before my time. I enjoy recreating looks inspired by the past wearing both vintage and vintage reproduction clothing. My blog focuses on the styles of the art deco period and features both authentic vintage pieces from the 1920s, 30s & 40s, as well as modern reproductions of clothing from these eras. My blog explores creating modern every day looks with vintage elements. If you would like to say hello get in touch with me through [email protected].
