Pinecones & Puff Sleeves

When December arrives I like to spend the month binging on Christmas. I go and see the lighting of the Christmas tree in the city, shop for ornaments, watch the Christmas fireworks, try all of the Christmas themed hot drinks at Starbucks, drive around looking at Christmas lights and watch all the Christmas movies. I have already eaten Christmas pudding twice this month and Christmas is still a few weeks to go. As I write this post I am snacking on baumkuchen and marzipan. I love the season of indulgence and frivolity that December is and I intend on living it up.

Of course part of the fun is dressing up in Christmas themed outfits! When it comes to dressing for Christmas I like to take an outfit that can be worn all year round, and spice it up with the right accessories. To give your outfit a festive flair I feel that all you really need are the traditional Christmas colours, such as red and green in this case – and some fun festive brooches and hair flowers. For my first festive outfit I am wearing the Dorothy dress by The Seamstress of Bloomsbury, and accessories by Daisy Jean Floral Designs.

The Dorothy dress with it’s puff sleeves and quintessential forties cut has been my Christmas shopping uniform this month. Soon as I put it on I feel the confidence to go into battle and face the Christmas crowds because there’s nothing like a beautiful dress to make one feel invincible! So just like what the spirit of the 40s is all about, this is certainly what I would call dressing for victory. If you are dreading fighting it out at the shops and plan on doing all of your shopping last minute, I would highly recommend putting on your favourite festive dress and getting out there to fight the good fight.

As you know, Christmas in Australia does not look like the traditional Christmas scene we are used to seeing on greeting cards. However, we do get the odd pine tree forest and all of the beautiful pinetrees in these photos are part of a plantation in a national park. Growing up in Russia I always had a live tree but as my Christmas obsession began early on, a tree in our home wasn’t enough. I would also go so far as to decorate live pine trees growing in the forest next to our house, which is something that a lot of local children took up.

I wasn’t allowed to use the good glass ornaments on the outside tree so I would make my own out of paper and tin foil. Earlier this week I came across a photo of five year old me standing proudly with my tree and it inspired this set of photos, and who knows if you keep an eye on my instagram I might just share the original there. One day I would love to have a proper snowy Christmas like the ones of my childhood, and my goal for 2017 is to make that a reality!

Such beautiful photos and words. Being an Aussie born and bred my knowledge of white Christmases is fairly limited. This post however. is evocative of the white Christmases that we grew up seeing but did not ever truly experience.

Omg! This whole outfit is amazing! It reminds me a bit of Red Riding Hood in a very lovely way, but looks still very Christmassy.
I also love to team “normal” outfits with Christmassy accessories and talked about this in some of my previous outfit posts, too. 😉

    Many hugs,
    Sandra <3

I’m liking the snood on you, I don’t think I’ve seen you wear one before. That’s a smashing frock, SOB coming up trumps again. I agree that accessories can really add the festive touch without having to wear a reindeer jumper or Christmas print. And you get more wear that way! Such a pretty little pine forest. Xx

So glad this location worked out – it looks amazing. You’ve got such an eye for them – and I love that you even bought decorations to put on the trees! This outfit is surely perfect for Christmas in summer. Agree with Porcelina – I’m enjoying the snood. A lovely festive look 🙂

You’re like an adorable Christmas Little Red Riding Hood! I love these photos – the red dress against this woodsy backdrop is breathtaking. Also, we’ve seen so many pastels/neutrals (which are always so lovely on you) this bold red literally made me gasp a bit! You look fantastic in this color!

What a wonderful little wood and charming dress! Those ornaments are beautiful too! I love traditional glass ornaments, but the ones you made as a child sound so fun, what a cute memory!

Love the festive dressing for battle idea Harlow, I do think that it’s a great way to keep everything feeling fun even when it is a lot of work {and stress!} sometimes! And what better than a SoB dress to do it in? That peter pan collar and the pin tucks are simply darling! ❤
